Understanding Myopia

What Is Myopia?

Myopia (nearsightedness) causes distant objects to appear blurry while near vision remains clear. It often begins in childhood and can progress rapidly during the growing years.

As myopia worsens, the eye elongates. Higher levels of myopia are associated with increased risk of eye conditions later in life, including retinal disease, glaucoma, and myopic macular degeneration.

That’s why early monitoring and management matter.

Why Standard Glasses Aren’t Enough

Is Updating Glasses Each Year the Only Option?

Traditional glasses and contact lenses correct blurry vision — but they do not slow the progression of myopia.

Our goal isn’t just clearer vision today. It’s helping reduce how quickly your child’s prescription changes over time.

Our Myopia Management Approach

A Personalized Plan for Your Child

Every child’s eyes are different. We evaluate:

  • Prescription changes over time

  • Eye growth patterns

  • Family history

  • Visual demands (school, sports, screen use)

  • Overall eye health

Based on these factors, we design a custom treatment plan.

Myopia Control Glasses - Essilor® Stellest® lenses

These lenses are specifically designed to slow the progressions of myopia in children. Wearing Stellest® lenses for 10 consecutive hours daily reduces changes in nearsightedness by actually slowing the growth of the eyeball.

Stellest® lenses provide the child with detailed distance vision but reduce the strain of focusing by employing a process called "peripheral defocus."

Low-Dose Atropine Therapy:

Prescription eye drops used nightly to help reduce the rate of myopia progression.

Why Early Intervention Matters

Protecting Vision for the Future

By intervening early, we can help:

  • Slow prescription changes

  • Support long-term eye health

  • Provide clearer, more stable vision
